ADVANCE Fund Awardee Announcement

Administered by Michigan State University and the Michigan Strategic Fund, through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the ADVANCE Grant Proof of Concept Fund provides an incentive for faculty with early stage technologies at Michigan public universities to engage with their university’s technology transfer office to advance their technologies toward commercialization. 

The following five awards were given in August and October, and represent the most recent list of awardees, as of October 2017.   

ADVANCE Grant Proof-of-Concept Fund Launches at MSU

The MSU Innovation Center is proud to manage and administer the ADVANCE Grant Program sponsored by Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) on behalf of all public universities throughout the State of Michigan. This university early stage proof-of-concept fund is designed to closely align with other programs (e.g. MTRAC, T3N, First Capital Fund), as well as angel and venture capital within the State to provide a pipeline of de-risked technologies and fundable startup opportunities for further advancement.

MSU Partners with Detroit’s RecoveryPark Farms to Grow Opportunity

RecoveryPark Farms is a Detroit agriculture enterprise providing fresh, local specialty produce to quality area restaurants, using novel lighting technology to support sustainable year-round growing.  This lighting technology is the product of an ongoing partnership with RecoveryPark Farms, Michigan State University and the Michigan Corporate Relations Network (MCRN), combining expertise  from Lansing, Grand Rapids and Detroit.

Michigan State University Foundation Launches $5M Venture Fund, Red Cedar Ventures LLC

The Michigan State University Foundation (MSUF) announced today the formation of its new, $5M venture investing subsidiary, Red Cedar Ventures. Its newest program features both a pre-seed fund and an opportunity fund focused on helping Michigan State University-based startups and technologies overcome critical funding gaps, accelerate growth, and provide follow-on, growth-stage capital.
