MSU Technologies is pleased to welcome Scott Steiger as Associate Director. In this role, Scott leads the CDA/MTA, IP Administration, and Agreement Compliance teams, supporting the processes and services that help researchers protect, manage, and advance innovations developed at Michigan State University.

Scott brings more than 13 years of experience in technology transfer, intellectual property management, and research commercialization. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with researchers, innovators, and institutional partners to help move promising discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace.

Scott began his technology transfer career at the University of Montana, where he supported the licensing of technologies along with patent evaluation, licensing activities, and compliance initiatives. He later joined the University of Washington, where he helped in evaluating patent assessment and marketing processes within a large research enterprise while supporting the licensing group in the office. He subsequently joined Washington State University as a Licensing Associate, working with researchers across a broad range of disciplines to evaluate inventions and support commercialization efforts. His contributions led to his promotion to Associate Director, where he assumed increased leadership responsibilities and helped support the continued growth and success of the technology transfer program.

In addition to his professional experience, Scott holds a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Montana, providing a strong scientific foundation for his work in technology commercialization. His combination of scientific expertise and technology transfer experience enables him to effectively bridge the gap between research innovation and real-world application.

Scott was drawn to Michigan State University by the opportunity to work within a large, diverse research environment and to support a broad portfolio of innovative technologies with the potential to create meaningful societal impact. His interest in technology transfer centers on helping early-stage discoveries progress beyond the research bench and into practical use.

At MSU Technologies, Scott looks forward to collaborating with faculty, researchers, and colleagues across the university to advance innovation and commercialization efforts. Through his leadership of the CDA/MTA, IP Administration, and Agreement Compliance teams, he will help researchers navigate key processes that support the successful development and transfer of university innovations.
