Dr. Fingland is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) at) Spartan Innovations, where he works with Michigan State University faculty and staff to facilitate commercialization of bio-based technologies discovered or developed at the university. Dr. Fingland is an experienced leader, research engineer, and technology developer in the areas of bio-based products, fuels, lubricants, catalysis, and materials science.
 
Before joining the Spartan Innovations team, Dr. Fingland was a researcher at Tenneco Automotive, where he developed the next generation of exhaust and suspension systems. Prior to Tenneco, Dr. Fingland was at ExxonMobil where he investigated renewable fuels, catalysis, hyrdoprocessing, and process research. Through these roles, Dr. Fingland has experience working with start-ups, national labs, research institutes, and university faculty on developing new technologies. He earned his Bachelors of Science at the University of Missouri – Columbia and his Ph.D. at Purdue University in Chemical Engineering. He has 14 granted patents and 24 published patent applications.
