MSU Launches Student Venture Capital Fund within Broad College of Business

Partnered with Red Cedar Ventures and the Michigan State University Foundation, the fund will direct up to $50K annually in venture capital to student-launched companies

A new partnership between Red Cedar Ventures—the wholly owned venture investment subsidiary of the Michigan State University Foundation—and the Center for Venture Capital, Private Equity and Entrepreneurial Finance (CVCPEEF) delivers venture funding experiences direct to the classroom.

As a Land Grant Institution with agricultural roots, it’s in our institution’s very DNA — MSU has been graduating food entrepreneurs since 1855. Recently, however, student momentum around food-based startups has increased in delightful ways.

Marx Awarded Entrepreneurship Scholarship

The James Ian Gray Scholarship in Entrepreneurial Studies is given to one innovative student each year, based on their contributions to the entrepreneurship at MSU. The fund supports current MSU students studying entrepreneurship and experiencing the risks that accompany starting a company. 

The MSU Innovation Center is proud to award this $10,000 scholarship to Alex Marx, co-CEO and founder of the student organic farm Land Grant Goods, and Undergraduate Experiential Learning Coordinator for RISE (Residential Initiative on The Study of The Environment),

MSU Partners with Detroit’s RecoveryPark Farms to Grow Opportunity

RecoveryPark Farms is a Detroit agriculture enterprise providing fresh, local specialty produce to quality area restaurants, using novel lighting technology to support sustainable year-round growing.  This lighting technology is the product of an ongoing partnership with RecoveryPark Farms, Michigan State University and the Michigan Corporate Relations Network (MCRN), combining expertise  from Lansing, Grand Rapids and Detroit.

Mercedes Benz Financial Joins Forces with MSU

Mercedes Benz Financial is modernizing with innovative, entrepreneurial students at Michigan State University. What began as a meeting with MSU's Business-CONNECT to explore collaboration became a project with the Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at MSU’s Broad College of Business and Lansing Economic Area Partnership to develop out-of-the-box ideas for the Mercedes Benz brand.

Conquer Accelerator Announces 2016 Participants

2016 GreenLight Business Model Competition Winners

The fourth annual GreenLight Business Model Competition announces winners of the March 30, 2016 competition. Competitors who impressed the panel of judges were able to win part of the $50,000 in cash prizes, the $25,000 grand prize being the largest, as well as network with numerous Michigan-based entrepreneurs and investors.

GreenLight Announces Finalists

Twenty teams of finalists have been selected to compete in the fourth annual GreenLight Business Model Competition. With opportunities to win up to $50,000 in cash prizes, these finalists will present their business concepts in front of an expert panel and live audience at MSU’s Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m.
