Staff Highlight: Meet Janet Foreman

You don’t have to look long to spot a variety of fun flamingos adorning Janet Foreman’s office. They’re bright and cheerful, adding just the right pop.

Foreman’s personality is just as pleasant. Serving as the executive staff assistant and office manager for MSU Technologies, the tech transfer and commercialization arm of the MSU Innovation Center, she helps keep the office efficient.

She spends her time assisting Executive Director Rich Chylla and Associate Director Anne Di Sante, mainly providing help with calendar scheduling, administrative support and special projects such as the MSU Innovation Celebration, an annual event honoring faculty for their innovative achievements.

As the office manager, Foreman serves as the point person for facility issues, event planning, computer assistance and much more.

“I enjoy both of these roles as they allow me the opportunity to interact with everyone in the office,” Foreman said.

A typical day at the office varies. It usually consists of checking emails, fulfilling calendar requests, working on projects, and participating in meetings.

“I like that every day is different. I never know what each day has in store for me,” Foreman added. “My personality type likes variety. I get bored with the same routine every day.”

Prior to joining the Innovation Center in 2017, Foreman was an executive secretary at the Eli Broad College of Business, the associate director of the Undergraduate Programs, and an assistant to the associate director of the MBA and MS programs in the Dean’s Office.

After graduating from MSU and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Merchandising Management, Foreman worked as a director of Administrative Services at a healthcare consulting company for 10 years. In 2012, Foreman began her career at MSU as an assistant to the director of the Brody Neighborhood Center.

Outside of the office, Foreman enjoys staying active with walking and bicycling. She also has an appreciation for cooking, reading and gardening, as well as spending as much time as possible with her friends and family along with a new granddaughter.

And of course, she loves collecting anything flamingo related. Connect with Janet at forema33@msu.edu.
